The Baku Metro increased 7 fold the rate of drilling of new tunnels.
Baku Metro?s deputy head Arif Rasulov says that due to purchase of German equipment Herrenknext it has already been drilled 265 m or 216 rings (each tubing: 120 cm) to new station Bus Terminal, while mechanical installation Robins has already drilled a distance of 40 m.
“By traditional method this distance could be drilled for 6 or 7 months,” he said.
Rasulov added that by the end of 2011 drilling efficiency in the tunnels would be increased up to 300 m a month. In accordance with the strategic plan saying of 7-car trains the length of Bus Terminal station platform will be 140 m and the length of existing stations is 102 m.
“At present, work is underway to identify additional exits of the station, one of which will be located on the territory of bus terminal and the other two in Balajari settlement, as the problem of pedestrian crossing on both sides of the highway will be solved,? Rasulov said.
He pointed out that to date three real projects of Bus Terminal station design have been submitted. Architects Akif Abdullaev and Sanan Salamzadeh are dealing with design and decoration of the station. The new and all following stations will be installed PSD system (Platform Screen Door) – sliding partitions that separate the passenger platform from train tracks.
“New station Bus Terminal will be commissioned before the end of 2013. The shuttle traffic will be organized at the station,? Aliyev said.
Previously, Fuad Taghizadeh, head of Technical-Production Office of the Baku Metro Main Department, has said that the cost of tunnel drilling mechanized equipment is $30 – $50 million, and the main goal of their purchase was to accelerate the process of laying new tunnels.
The new driller facilities have capacity of 30-40 m a day that will affect positively implementation of a strategic development plan of the Baku Metro in the next 20 years.
